The Jacksonville Jaguars rookie is battling an upper-body issue as the regular season nears, but the team isn’t particularly concerned at this moment.
Head coach Liam Coen previously said Hunter was being held out for precautionary reasons ahead of Jacksonville’s Week 2 preseason contest against the New Orleans Saints.
Hunter missed practice before that game and is now poised to sit out the preseason finale against the Miami Dolphins. No one is sounding the alarms, but Hunter’s vision of being a two-way pro brings these issues even more into focus.
Here’s the latest on Hunter:
Travis Hunter injury update
Hunter continues to deal with an upper-body injury, but it remains unclear what the issue is.
Coen still isn’t concerned about Hunter’s absence, telling reporters that he is focused on getting the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft ready for the regular season kickoff.
“It was being smart about the next few weeks,’ Coen said after a joint practice with the Dolphins on Thursday, Aug. 21. ‘The ultimate goal is Carolina [in Week 1]. That’s at the top of mind right now. We’re moving in the right direction.’
The coach added that Hunter would be healthy enough to play in a game if they needed him.
Jacksonville continues to take a cautious approach with the rookie, who returned to practice in a limited capacity earlier in the week.
He’ll be held out of the Jaguars’ final preseason game, but there seems to be confidence surrounding his availability for Week 1.
